Oscar Party!

A couple of my closest friends and myself really get into the Oscars. Like REALLY. To get ready for the big day, we attend the Oscar Showcase at a local theater (yeah, we are awesome). They play all of the movies that are up for "Movie of the Year" in two weekends. It is a blast and you get a lot of cool perks for attending. Well, last year we decided to throw an Oscar Party to really enjoy the night. It was so much fun; we wanted to do it again this year!

We don't just get together and eat snacks; we get together and eat "Movie of the Year" themed snacks! Yes yes... we are way too cool. The movies that were up for the award this year were:

These nine movies are what served as our inspiration for these yummy treats!

Croissants - Hugo steals croissants in the movie!
Hawaiian Rolls and Pulled Pork Sandwiches and
Caribbean Jerk Chicken Kabobs! The movie is set in Hawaii :)
Extremely Hot and Incredibly Spicy buffalo chicken dip!
You see what we did there?
Minnie's Chocolate Pie - Minus you know what!
This movie was set in Paris, so French pastries...
We do what we can :)
Peanuts! Baseball themed for Moneyball!
Tree of Life Broccoli Tree!
Black and White cake balls! It is a silent, black and white film, so
these went perfectly! They were also decorated in white dresses and
black tuxes to match the costumes of the film!
Roast beef and War Horse-radish finger sandwiches! Horse theme
was probably one of the most challenging, but this was such a cute idea!
Food Table
So there you go! That was our Oscar themed food! There were three couples, so we all made three dishes each and everyone got to put their own creative touch into their dish. We decorated the entire room, one couple put out past "Movie of the Year" DVD's to set the mood, we played Oscar Bingo, and of course had a prize for whoever picked the most winners correctly. If you don't get into the Oscars very much, maybe next year try putting your own twist to it! It makes it a 1000 times more fun.

Hope you enjoyed this little post and sorry for the picture overload!

Also, this is my first time to link up with Rolled Up Pretty! Check out the others that have linked up!

Musical {Singing in the Rain}

Well Monday Musicals is back! It has been two whole weeks without an update - how did you ever survive? I will catch up on those later this year! Since my life is still desperately trying to catch back up, I am doing one of my favorite musicals today! Not a newbie, sorry...

All pics via google

What really inspired me to pick "Singing in the Rain" this week was actually the new silent film, "The Artist." I finally got to watch it this past weekend, and there were many "Singing in the Rain" moments. In case you are interested in "The Artist,"I would highly recommend it. It was amazing and deserved movie of the year, hands down. Brilliant acting and directing.

Don't believe me on the similarities, just look at the characters! The beginning duo of "The Artist" even share the same personalities as the beginning duo in "Singing in the Rain."

Singing in the Rain
The Artist - sorry couldn't find a closer picture of these two
Now back to the point of this post, "Singing in the Rain." The notion of early cinema and the transition of black and white/color and silent/"talkies" has interested me for awhile. I think that is why I loved so many of the Oscar nominees this year - "The Artist" and "Hugo" definitely capture this time period and struggle, but "Singing in the Rain" did it first (I have no idea who REALLY did it first, but in my viewing experience it was "Singing in the Rain").

If you are interested in early cinema or that transition, this musical is a must see. It should be on any Musical Lover's list, but specifically those who are into this time period. With all that being said, you can probably guess the plot line - transitional period from silent to "talkie" films and the difficulties that many actors faced, but in a comical way of course. And no worries, there is a love story, dancing, and singing (the perfect combination)!

"Make 'Em Laugh", "Moses Supposes,"and "Singing in the Rain" are my favorite songs from the film, but there are a lot of great ones throughout. This musical, by many, is considered the greatest musical ever made. And the songs have lived on through the years as well. Don't believe me? The song "Singing in the Rain" was used in Glee in Season 2! It is one of my favorite renditions that they have come up with, so click here to watch it (It was pretty stinkin' cute, so I think you should)!

So, if you haven't seen this classic, you need to right now, NOW I tell you! If you already have, leave me a comment and tell me what you think? What is your favorite song? Do you love Glee's version?!

Until next week Musical Lovers,

Valentine love and no More Comps Love...

Well, it has been 13 days since my last post! Little life update - I am done with my comprehensive exams for my Master's degree and since that day, I have been lazy, lazy, lazy... Seriously, I had to force myself to sit down and even write this post. I don't understand why I am so out of it, but I can't get back into the groove of things. Other than my post-exam comatose, I am doing wonderful. The relief of being done with this test, is more than I can even express. Now, I am just awaiting the results.

As my previous posts have told you, my exams fell on Valentines day! Which meant, that my Valentine and I did not get to celebrate with the rest of the world. Not only was I locked in a computer lab for 8 hours, but my Valentine is a member of a singing group called "Wild and Sweet," so he delivered singing telegrams from 8am to 9pm. How cute are they? However, that night we all got to meet for a Valentine dinner at Primo's in Moore, and here they are singing to our waitresses. Sorry for the quality - it was dark and filmed on my phone. My Valentine is the one you can't see the whole time.. haha!

Yes, they are too cute and they sang to 21 people on Valentines day! Shameless plug - If you are in the Oklahoma area, they would love to come sing for events, church services, etc.

With all of that being said, my Valentine and I celebrated V-day on the 17th! Around 10am that morning, he showed up to cook a V-day breakfast for me! He is a North Carolinian boy, so his parents sent him some country ham and that is what he made. We had biscuits, country ham (which believe me, it is very different from Oklahoma ham), fruit, eggs, and juice. So sweet!

The that night, we did something that seems so silly, but we have wanted to do it for almost two years now - walk the OKC underground tunnels. Every time we went to try, they were closed. But not this time, we just went and walked around and talked (honestly, what is better than that?)

Then we went to dinner at the Wedge. The Wedge is a little pizza place in OKC. It is one of our favorite restaurants in the city, so we go anytime we have an excuse. They have two locations: one on Western and the other Downtown. We went to the downtown location to check it out. It is actually really cool, so if you haven't tried it, you should. While we were there, we took a couple snap shots of ourselves :)

 Isn't he handsome!

We had a wonderful "Valentines Day!" I'm sure I have bored you to death with my little sappy story, but who better to share with than you!

I can't wait to get back into the swing of things with this little blog!

I'll be back soon!

I know I've been a little sparse lately. Don't give up on me! Right after my comps, I will tear this blog world to pieces - me and my nine followers! I also realize that I have not posted a Monday Musical this week, but I have unplugged my TV until my comps are over. So, I will catch up on those when all is said and done. I am trying to be a good girl and study like an adult.

I'd rather be blogging...

I'll be back soon.

Love Fest Link Party!

findsomelove

In my attempts to get to know some new bloggers, I really want to get in on this awesome Love Fest Link Party! Being new to the blog world, however, makes me doubt if I am really doing this right :)

Nevertheless, I am going to give it my best shot! This coming Valentines Day is actually not one I am looking forward to. It is not because I am single and despise a holiday about love, but instead because my Master's program Comprehensive Exams fall on the same day (I seriously don't know who did that scheduling, but really?).

So, this Valentines Day will consist of me writing three, 1100-word, essays in eight hours. But, I will not let that keep my Valentine's spirit down! Since I haven't had time to come up with anything original to do for my Valentine since I have been studying, I have decide to rely on some of my Pinterest finds (which are much better than I would have come up with anyways)! So, here are a few of my favorites:

I just love this little idea for my someone special! How simple and cute is this. Over at the The Darling Doodles blog, you can actually download the tags yourself!

I am also in love with these cookies! They look so simple, and I think my Valentine would enjoy the sentiment.
